The new Chief Justice has been asked to ensure he maintains his independence.
President Yoweri Museveni yesterday named Justice Bart Katureebe Uganda’s new Chief Justice, filling a position left vacant two years ago by retired Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki.
Now Western Youth MP Gerald Karuhanga, one of the people who had opposed the controversial reappointment of Odoki says the new Chief Justice must serve the country without any bias and must resist any attempts to be compromised by government.
Karuhanga had earlier gone to court challenging a decision by the president to reappoint Benjamin Odoki who had clocked the retirement age of 75.
