Telecom companies have been asked to create initiatives that will support women entrepreneurs engaging in digital technology-related businesses.

The chief Executive officer of MTN-Uganda Sylvia Mulinge says if the country continues to promote digital skills for women in rural and urban settings to build their businesses without frustrating them with little say in accessing affordable gadgets and the internet, more will be able to use phones and computers to access opportunities and reach their wanted goals in their business careers.

“Women entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of the communities, driving economic growth and creating jobs, therefore supporting their businesses will continue to make the country’s economy thrive,” she said.

She says although a number of women are getting access to mobile phones, more Women are still less likely than men to have access to mobile phones and use mobile services.

She made the remarks while officiating at the Launch of MTN project code-named Advancing Women Entrepreneurs. The project is aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs to access opportunities in the ICT sector.

She asked women leaders to continue creating opportunities for women.
