Women and youth are advised to venture into bee keeping to improve household incomes.
Launching the sixth national honey week at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala this morning, the state minister for agriculture in charge of animal husbandry Bright Rwamirama has said Apiculture is ideal for such groups of people because it does not require a lot of land.
He also revealed that Uganda’s beekeeping industry has continued to grow steadily the last 12 years, giving hope for a bright future for the sector.
Rwamirama adds that local dialect manuals have been published to support farmers in training.
He says the ministry is also clustering farmers into cooperatives to help them realize more value for their honey both locally and on the international market where demand remains high.
