WHO wants fight against HIV intensified

HIVAIDS

Government has been tasked to strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The World Health Organisation Country Representative Alemo Wondimage-denehu says as more people get infected with the virus pressure is increased on the limited resources and treatment serci.

Alemo says more sensitization needs to be done to ensure that those who are already HIV positive receive adequate treatment.

Statistics from the Uganda Health Demographic Survey 2011 indicate that HIV infections rates stand at 7.3%.

In a separate development, the Ministry of Health has procured 19 ambulances for rural health facilities.

The ambulances were procured using funds from the $130 million loan from the World Bank under the Uganda Health Systems Strengthening Project.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Asuman Lukwago says the ambulances which are already in the country are currently subjected to final checkups before distribution.
