What Magnitude of Threat Does Al Shabab Pose to The Region?

This week marks five years since the twin bombings by Al Shabab that targeted soccer fans left over 70 people dead in Kampala.

On July 11th 2010 terrorists struck, a dark cloud hung over the entire country as hundreds mourned the death of their loved ones.

Just hours after the incident, the Somali based Islamist militants claimed the attack which they said was in revenge for the involvement of UPDF troops in peace keeping mission in the war torn country.

For the next three days we shall be looking at a family that lost a loved one and how they are copying up plus an assessment of the security situation in country and the entire region since the attacks.

But first, KFM’s Herbert Zziwa digs deeper into the origin of Alshabaab, its funding, strength and growth and the magnitude of the threat it poses to the region.
