Kampala Capital City Authority is to blame for the poorly regulated movement of heavy trucks in the central business district.
The commissioner in charge of traffic police Dr Steven Kasiima says by law local authorities are mandated to formulate and execute policies and guidelines that may govern the movement of vehicles in their area of jurisdictions.
Dr.Kasiima says that currently there is no law or any policy formulated by KCCA to regulate movement of such vehicles.
The city authorities have however often heaped the blame on the ministry of works and transport.
Kasiima’s comments come a day after seven people died in an accident after a coffee-laden truck rammed into a commuter taxi at Wakaliga along the Mengo-Nateete road.
According to the police, the driver of a truck carrying coffee to Masaka from Mengo failed to brake and crashed into a commuter taxi with passengers travelling to Kampala.
Meanwhile two victims of the accident have been discharged.
The duo is part of the 8 that were rushed to Mulago hospital for treatment following an accident that claimed 7 lives and left several others seriously injured.
The Mulago hospital spokesperson Enock Kusasira says some of the victims are steadily recovering.
