The Vice President Edward Sekandi is a free man following the withdrawal of the petition challenging his election as Bukoto Central MP.
Democratic Party’s Jude Mbabali has withdrawn the petition he had filed seeking nullification of the elections, which he said were marred by voter bribery and intimidation, among other forms of malpractice.
Through his lawyer, Chrisostom Katumba, Mbabali told court that he had decided to withdraw the petition after calls by several leaders, calling for reconciliation.
He singled out the Kampala Arch bishop Dr.Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the Katikkiro of Buganda Eng. John Baptist Walusiimbi, retired DP President General Paulo Kawanga Ssemwogerere and the Masaka Diocesan Prelate the Rt. Reverend John Baptist Kaggwa among those that brokered the deal.
Mbabali claims he was advised against pursuing the case which could result into divisions among the people of Bukoto Central.
The presiding judge Elizabeth Musoke ruled that since all parties were in a agreement, the case stood withdrawn with each party bearing its own costs.
