The Uganda Women’s Network(UWONET) has urged the Nigerian government to continue with the search for the abducted Chibok school girls.
The women activists advised the Nigerian government to keep focus on the issue of bringing the girls back to their families and providing those who escaped with proper health support.
UWONET’s executive Rita Aciro says they want justice to prevail over the matter because time is running out and at the moment there is nothing to show as progress on bringing back the girls.
“We are here to remind the Nigerian government to provide health support to same of the escaped girls and take action against the rising terror in Africa,” Ms. Aciro said.
Ms. Aciro added that it’s not only the citizens but the government’s primary responsibilities to make sure it’s citizens are given proper security against such injustices in the country.
Receiving the petition, Nigerian High Commissioner Ambassador Cornelius Oluwateru says he has confidence in both the present and incoming government on the search to find and bring back the girls to their families.
“Nigeria is working hand in hand with other African countries such as Chad, Niger, Cameroon and the African Union to make sure the Boko Haram is destroyed completely and the girls are brought back together safely.” Amb. Cornelius said.
In April 2014 over 200 girls were abducted from a Government girl’s secondary school in Chibok by the Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terror organization based in Northeast Nigeria. According to the police, about 276 children were taken in the attack, of which 53 had escaped. Other reports said that 329 girls were kidnapped, 53 had escaped and 276 were still missing.
