Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich has today been declared the sports personality of the month of August by the Uganda Sports Press Association.
In a rather unusual move, there was no voting and Kiprotich was announced unopposed even before the sports scribes met today.
Kiprotich surprised the world when he became Uganda’s second Olympic gold winner beating two Kenyans in the final 42-kilo meter men’s race.
He registered 2 hours 8 minutes and 1 second relegating Kenya’s two-time defending world champion Abel Kirui to a silver medal with 2 hours 8 minutes 27seconds and long-time leader Wilson Kipsang to Bronze.
Kiprotich is to crowned on Friday at the Oasis Mall at the USPA offices.
