By Benjamin Jumbe:

The U.S. Government is committed to working with the Ugandan Government to combat wildlife trafficking.

The commitment was made by the US ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac during the award giving ceremony for the wildlife art painting school champions held at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre yesterday.

Ambassador Malac said achieving this will require collaborating and strengthening national agencies, including law enforcement and the judiciary, to ensure that wildlife crime cases are appropriately settled.

To this end, through the African Wildlife Foundation, the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has donated a vehicle to the Uganda Wildlife Authority to bolster its canine unit and the fight against wildlife trafficking.

Meanwhile as part of efforts to strengthen the Uganda Wildlife Authority‘s ecological monitoring capacity, the ambassador handed over 130 smart phones and 50 power banks.
