The growing number of mushrooming orphanages in Uganda has prompted the Gender Ministry to commission a special inter-agency committee to investigate the matter.
The move comes at the time when the ministry has just concluded a mini study in 90 orphanages home with results showing that 20 of these were operating illegally.
According to the permanent secretary ministry Pius Bigirimana, the committee will involve police, internal affairs ministry and other line agencies.
