UPDF soldiers in Somalia haven’t received salaries for nine months.

David Kugonza | September 13, 2016

This has been revealed by the Chief of defence forces Gen Katumba Wamala while appearing before the parliamentary Foreign Affairs committee

He said that African Union hasn’t remitted any allowances for solders yet it’s their obligation to facilitate the Amisom force financially.

Gen Katumba says they have tried to engage the AU but they also attribute the delay to European Union which doesn’t also remitted money to AU.

Meanwhile Gen Katumba has also cleared rumors that UPDF is illegally deducting 200 dollars from the gross fees of 828 dollars paid to every soldier serving in Somalia.

He says the money was agreed upon amongst the funders, UPDF and soldiers as fee for specified continuous training of foreign forces.
