President Museveni is expected to award 41 medals on Thursday to military officers and civilians who made outstanding contributions to the country’s development.
The awards ceremony will take place during the 44th anniversary of the Tarehe Sita celebrations at Kasasa grounds in Koytera District.
The event’s theme is “Celebrating Pan-African Solidarity and the People’s Sacrifice in the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Socio-Economic Transformation.”
Tarehe Sita commemorates the day 27 armed National Resistance Army (NRA) rebels, led by Mr. Yoweri Museveni, stormed Kabamba barracks, overran the quarter guard, and seized weapons before heading to the bush and ultimately fighting their way to State House.
Defence Deputy Public Information Officer (DDPIO) Col. Deo Akiiki says they are prepared for the celebrations.
‘’We have finished all our projects that we promised the people of Greater Masaka, done by the Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) engineering project, a lot of medical projects, medical services, sports, education support, books, debates have also been going on today’’ he said.
‘’Today (Wednesday) the ministers accompanied by the UPDF generals and local leaders handed over the project officially to the people of Greater masaka,” he added.
Medals will be awarded in seven categories, including the Masaba Star, National Independence Medal, Luwero Triangle Medal, Nalubaale Medal, Personal Sacrifice Medal, Honorary Medal, and Long Service Medal.
