Teachers who have not received their salaries will not teach.
This is one of the resolutions from a meeting by the Uganda National Teachers’ Union held in Kampala this morning.
Led by the secretary general James Tweheyo, the teachers have agreed that those who have not been paid stop teaching effective Monday next week.
Tweheyo says they are pressing for their demands for the 20% salary increment, reaffirming their intention to strike on 16th September.
H is now asking government to urgently implement the resolutions agreed upon earlier to avert the looming strikes.
Meanwhile,
The Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group has thrown weight behind the teachers.
The group says that the President’s rejection of the promised 15% salary raise during the NRM caucus meeting was absurd since it was a promise made earlier by government.
The Advocacy group’s coordinator Julius Mukunda says teachers are already feeling the brunt of salary delays.
He says they are now set to meet Parliament’s Education Committee tomorrow over the matter.
Mukunda was this morning speaking at a dialogue with Parliamentary staff.
