The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has withheld the results of 984 candidates who sat for the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education examinations due to suspected malpractice.
Releasing the results on Tuesday at Nakasero State Lodge, UNEB Executive Director, Mr. Daniel Odongo, noted that most of the reported cases of malpractice occurred in science practical papers, with physics being the most affected.
Of the reported cases, 883 are in science subjects and only 65 in all other subjects combined. He explained that, in the science cases, there is overwhelming evidence that teachers provided candidates with experimental results to copy. He added that some candidates’ work did not correlate with the recorded results.
Meanwhile, he reported a reduction in malpractice cases from 3,000 in 2023 to 984 in 2024.
“There has been a very welcome reduction in cases of malpractice. There are 64 cases with a total of 984 candidates suspected,” Mr ODongo said.
The Board noted that all affected candidates will be invited to UNEB, and if cleared, their results will be released.
