The Uganda National Teachers Union is calling on the education ministry to set the bar high for senior four and six students who wish to join Teacher Training Colleges and those doing education course in universities.
UNATU General Secretary James Tweheyo says currently its only students who pass with low grades who join teacher training colleges which is affecting the overall quality of education.
Tweheyo says many of these teachers cannot comprehend what they teach which has resulted into poor performance especially in government schools.
This comes days after a report released by UWEZO – a non govt organisation indicated that in primary three, 1 out of the 10 pupils in government schools against 3 out of 10 in private schools can read primary 2 English literature.
