The United Nations organization has been dragged before the Commercial Court for failure to clear over 1.5 billion shillings to a construction company, Kwik Build Contractors and Engineering LTD, which it contracted to construct the UN regional services office building in Entebbe.
Through the construction company’s lawyer, Sebalu and Lule Advocates, the construction company says according to the agreement signed on 17th October, 2012 , the office building was supposed to be handed over for use in January 2015 , but due to delays occasioned by the UN, it was impossible.
The company says it had completed almost the construction work and left with a few drainage constructions and installations which were delayed by late installation of power at the site and failure to appoint a project representative to make decisions on behalf of UN.
It says that however, the UN cancelled the contract due to delays and it has since refused to pay the said money despite repeated demands, hence petitioning court seeking payment for the same and general damages for breach of contract.
Deputy Registrar Thaddeus Opesene summoned the UN to respond to these claims within 15 days.
