Electricity distribution company UMEME says there was a slowdown in demand for electricity in the year 2016.
The chairman board of directors Mr.Patrick Bitature says traditionally the demand for power in the country has been at 9% each year, but to their dismay this time round the figure came to just 5.4%.
Bitature made the remarks while addressing the company’s shareholders at the Annual General Meeting held in Kampala on Thursday.
He attributed the decline in demand for power to the 2016 general elections, saying that generally investment slowed down in the country during this period.
He is however optimistic that the trend will change during the year 2017.
