Despite a parliamentary committee recommendation to cancel the 20 year concession, electricity distributor Umeme has revealed plans of investing 440 million dollars into network expansion.
Earlier this year, a parliamentary ad hoc committee on energy recommended that the company’s contract be terminated due to poor service delivery.
However, UMEME Managing Director Charles Chapman tells KFM that this has not deterred their expansion plans.
He says they are to focus on rolling out the pre-paid metering system across the country.
