Kenyan president-elect Uhuru Kenyatta is set to take the oath of office on Tuesday in front of foreign dignitaries and thousands of supporters who already started streaming into the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Kenyatta will be sworn in for a second term in office after emerging victorious during the Oct. 26 repeat presidential polls.

“We have received many congratulatory messages from foreign countries and we have more than 43 delegations who have confirmed attendance,” Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Monica Juma said on Monday evening.

Kenyatta’s swearing-in ceremony is being held amid tight security in Nairobi and its environs.

Security had been heightened both inside and outside the stadium where the ceremony is taking place, with heavily armed military officers manning the place.

Kenyatta won the repeat election with 7.48 million votes in 266 out of 291 constituencies where the election took place. This represents about 98.27 percent of valid votes.
