Uganda’s ambassadors abroad have been challenged to create opportunities for investment in the East Africa region.
While opening the 5th annual Ambassadors conference in Kampala today, the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi, said the ambassadors play a key role in identifying potential investors and luring them into the country.
Ssekandi says this will enable the region and Uganda in particular to partner with other countries to attract trade especially in the infrastructure and oil sectors.
Meanwhile, some of the ambassadors have lamented over gross underfunding towards the missions abroad.
Uganda’s ambassador to the Nordic countries, Wanume Zaake Kibedi says while most missions are operating on minimal resources, they need more funds to promote investment opportunities.
Meanwhile, the business community in Uganda has been challenged to utilize its relations with China to export more local products.
According to Uganda’s Ambassador to China, Charles Wagidoso, China is currently the sole beneficiary of the trade links through importing its products into Uganda.
Wagidoso says for Uganda’s trade volumes to grow, traders should focus on value addition to make it easier to market their products not only in China but the international market.
He says the embassy is engaging with the business community in China to invest in the country.
