By Ritah Kemigisa.

Ugandans have been warned that Virtual private networks (VPN) is not the ultimate solution to bypass paying the Shs 200 daily level on social media.

When the tax which was passed by legislators in May became effective yesterday, most of the Ugandans opted to using VPN to default from paying this tax.

However speaking to Kfm, Michael Niyitegeka an IT expert says the platform comes along with a number of costs among them; draining your phone battery and data thus making it more expensive in the long run than shs 200 levy.

Niyitegeka insists that VPN might not be the best solution adding that some of these apps are sophisticated and may require a lot of authentication.

Government expects to get about shs 400 billion from social media users annually
