The ministry of internal affairs has organized regional workshops to raise awareness on acquisition of passports.
Statistics from the Directorate of Immigration and Citizenship Control show that over 600 people flock the headquarters for passport application every day, yet only about 400 passports are issued on a daily basis.
The directorate’s boss Godfrey Sasaga says many Ugandans only wake up to get passports when they have journeys abroad, hence causing unnecessary rush.
He explained that these workshops are intended to educate Ugandans that it’s their constitutional right to have a passport and they can get it anytime as part of their personal documents.
