Ugandans registering as refugees in their own country

By Benjamin Jumbe.

Poor service delivery has pushed more Ugandans to start registering as refugees in their own country.

The latest are the residents of Kyegegwa district who are registering to benefit from the services offered to refugees compared to those offered at government aided health centers and other basic social services provided by humanitarian agencies.

The LC-3 chairperson for MpalaSub County in Kyegegwa district, Tugumisirize Saiti attributes this development to the poor quality of services coupled with poverty which has left the host communities languishing in abject poverty compared to the refugees.

The community also wants government to set up more secondary schools in the sub county to support the available schools, have the current health center III upgraded to provide better services to residents.

Uganda is currently host to over 1.5m refugees from neighboring countries of DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, S.Sudan and Somalia among others.
