The shadow Internal Affairs minister Muwanga Kivumbi has opposed the ratification of the Mutual Defence pact citing the absence of Tanzania and Burundi.
The motion for ratification of the pact had been tabled by Defence Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, but Kivumbi presented a minority report on the same.
Legislators on the defence committee earlier questioned Aronda’s decision given the fact that Uganda still has her own internal security challenges that require close interventions but derailed by finance and personnel related issues.
Aronda however emphasize the need for the pact saying it will strengthen regional cooperation and security.
If ratified, the Mutual Defence Pact will see the country defend other East African Countries whenever war breaks out.
