Uganda is the second most corrupt country in East Africa, according to the 2013 Transparency International Corruption Index.
Out of the 177 countries assessed worldwide, Uganda is ranked 140th, after Burundi in 157th with Kenya in 136th, Tanzania in 111th and Rwanda as the least corrupt in 49th position.
Beyond East Africa, Somalia trails in position 175.
However there was a slight reduction in the corruption scores from 29 in 2012 to 26 in 2013.
The chairperson Transparency International Huguette Labelle, says the new findings indicate that abuse of power, secret dealings and bribery continue to ravage societies around the world.
Labelle is now calling for renewed effort to crack down on money laundering, clean up political finance, pursue the return of stolen assets and build more transparent public institutions.
