Former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has welcomed the reopening of the Gatuna/Katuna border but warns it will close again if the objective conditions that led to its closure are not fully addressed.
In a statement on Twitter on Friday, Rwanda’s foreign ministry said the country would re-open the common border today after nearly three years of closure following a meeting between President Paul Kagame and Uganda commander of the land forces Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
However, according to Dr Besigye, Uganda and Rwanda have deep-rooted problems that are not transparent and are not near over because of the bitter relationship between President Museveni and Paul Kagame.
It is from this that Besigye is demanding to know the actual state of Uganda-Rwanda relations adding that the leadership ambitions of the two presidents remain robust much as Uganda is at a ‘weaker position.’
