The Anti-corruption Court has charged and remanded to Luzira prison the former Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society Micheal Nataka.
He has been charged with abuse of office in a case involving the transportation of a private individual’s vehicle in the same container carrying a Red Cross consignment.
Nataka appeared this afternoon before Grade one magistrate Agnes Alum and denied the charges which prosecution alleges that he committed between February and June 2013 at Uganda Red Cross
Headquarters in Rubaga division, Kampala district.
The DPP says Nataka’s actions constitute an offence since he was well aware that it’s against the principles governing Uganda Red cross to seek tax exemptions from URA by transporting individual goods purporting to belong to Red cross whereas not.
State Attorney Harriet Angom informed court that inquiries into the matter were complete but asked court to allow her some time to organize her witness before fixing a hearing date.
Nataka has been remanded until tomorrow when he will return to court to present his bail application.
