Uganda needs to more to achieve the desired levels of human development. This is according the 2014 Human Development UNDP report to be launched in Kampala tomorrow.
The report ranks Kenya highest in the East African region in 147th position, followed by Rwanda in 151st, Tanzania in 159th while Uganda trails in 164th.
DR Congo and Niger are ranked lowest at 186th and 187th respectively, while Norway, Australia and Switzerland took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
The report; Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience provides a fresh perspective on vulnerability and proposes ways to strengthen resilience.
According to income-based measures of poverty, upto 1.2 billion of the world’s population lives with $1 or less a day.
And although poverty is declining overall, almost 800 million people are at risk of falling back into poverty if setbacks occur.
