The Uganda Cancer institute has distanced itself from reports of negligence by its medical workers which led to the death of a cancer patient in its compound.
Yesterday our sister paper Daily Monitor reported that health workers at the institute left a patient unattended in the compound for 60 hours leading to his death.
In a press conference called by the Institute’s Executive Director Dr Jackson Orem this morning, he instead listed the successes of the institute downplaying concerns about poor service delivery and client handling.
Dr Orem has instead blamed Kiruddu hospital where the patient had been admitted for what he calls the improper referral.
He has also blamed the driver of the ambulance for lacking professionalism, adding that they are investigating this matter.
