The Uganda AIDs Commission is in the process of drawing a new strategic plan for fighting HIV/AIDS.
The plan comes at a time when more new infections continue to be registered among the various segments of the population.
The Executive director of the Uganda AIDS Commission Dr. Christine Ondoa says the five year plan will outline new approaches on how to handle the scourge.
Ondoa notes that they have observed that the current strategies are not adequately addressing the problem as was the case in early 2000.
Statistics from ministry of health indicate a rising trend of new infections now estimated at 130,000 per year pushing Uganda’s HIV prevalence rate up from 6.4% in 2005 to 7.3% currently.
