The Uganda Communications Commission says it is yet to receive the official communication on parliament’s directive to extend the deadline for verification of sim card registration by one year.
Parliament last evening adopted a motion that was tabled by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Winnie Kiiza after she convinced the House that many people are yet to get their National Identity cards, which she blamed on negligence and delays by the National Identification and Registration Authority.
She also argued that only two languages have been used to communicate about the Friday deadline yet not all Ugandans understand Luganda and English.
It now remains to be seen if UCC, which has once postponed the deadline, and said it will not do it a third time, will heed the House’s counsel.
UCC boss Godfrey Mutabazi has told KFM that once they receive official communication of the directive the commission will act accordingly.
