The government is to introduce three new vaccines on the immunization schedule next year.
These include the Rotavirus vaccine for prevention of diarrhea, and two others for prevention of meningitis and polio.
The state minister for primary health care Sarah Opendi says the move is aimed at reducing the country’s morbidity.
While speaking at a stake holder’s meeting for district health officials on immunization, Opendi said they want to achieve 100 percent immunization coverage from the current 97 percent.
The minister has also warned health workers against selling vaccines to members of the public saying the law will catch up with them.
Meanwhile, the deputy manager for the Uganda National Program on Immunization Dr. Henry Luze says the change in polio vaccine from oral administration to injectable is aimed at completely eradicating the polio virus.
