Police in Mpigidistrict have arrested four National Forestry Authority officials over irresponsible shooting that left one resident injured.

According to police preliminary investigations, the suspectsintercepted two trucks suspected of carrying logs and fire wood from protected forest reserves in the area last Friday.

However when the trucks refused to stop, ,the suspects including an NFA area supervisor , two soldiers and a police officer , reportedly opened fire thus injuring one of the occupants .

The incident sparked off protests in the area and residents attempted to lynch the officials, but police swiftly rushed to the village and calmed down the situation.

Julius Ahimbisibwe, the Mpigi district police commander, said they were investigating the suspects’ motive to shoot at the trucks.

He said investigations into the shooting were nearing completion and suspects are likely to face charges of unlawful use of guns, injuring a person and causing malicious damage.
