Makerere University management will tomorrow issue an official statement on the issue of graduation fees.
Earlier today a group of students stormed the University administration block protesting the increment in graduation fees from 90,000 to 220,000 shillings.
The scuffle that ensued left two students injured as police tried to block the demonstration.
Now the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance Prof Barnabas Nawangwe says the Vice Chancellor is yet to consult the council chairman before a statement is issued tomorrow.
At Busitema university, the police remain heavily deployed to avert further riots by the students.
Last week the University Council resolved to close the institution indefinitely following three days of a student strike.
The standoff stemmed from the reduction of student allowances from Shs 450,000 to Shs 350,000 and increment of graduation fees from 100,000 to 200,000 shillings.
Now speaking to KFM, the Bukedi region police spokesperson Michel Odongo said the university authorities have not made a decision on the re-opening over fears of renewed demonstrations.
He however adds that the situation is under control as negotiations between the student leaders and the university management continue.
