With just a day to Xmas, transport operators have advised people travelling upcountry for the Christmas festivities to only use commuter taxis and buses picked at designated stages for their safety.

The chairman of Uganda Transport Development Agency (UTRADA), Mustapha Mayambala, tells KFM that many passengers tend to opt for cheap means of transport forgetting that some pretend to be taxi operators yet they are criminals.

He also advises passengers to mark their luggage for easy tracing.

Mayambala, meanwhile asks traffic police to intensify its “Fika Salama” operation during this festive season to track down errand motorists.

He says such operations have reduced the number of accidents that used to happen especially on the major routes during the festive seasons.

Passengers are also advised to report drivers over speeding drivers noting that safety is key.
