Traders under their body the Kampala City Traders Association have called off their strike which was set to begin on 1st August.
The 7-day strike was to protest against the failure by government to address issues affecting the traders including the depreciating Shilling and the infiltration of foreigners into petty trade, among others.
Addressing the press today, the spokesperson of the traders Issa Sekito said they have held several meetings with the government, which has pledged to address their issues.
He says they have met officials from the trade ministry and the President, who have pledged to ensure trade order in the city and tighten control measures against foreigners working in the country.
Sekito says the government has appealed to the traders to give them time to stabilize the Shilling, with measures already being undertaken.
Sekito says the traders agreed to give government the benefit of doubt but adds that the strike is not being called off indefinitely.
