One person was shot dead in Busia town on Tuesday after armed robbers reportedly stole money from currency exchange dealers. The robbers, brandishing pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle, targeted dealers at the closed Mawero roadside market along Tororo Road.

The victim, 70-year-old Desiderio Omaro, a currency exchange dealer, was reportedly shot as he resisted the robbery. He died of gunshot wounds en route to Tororo Hospital.

The robbers, who fled on motorcycles across the border into Kenya, reportedly stole an unspecified amount of money.

Several witnesses interviewed by KFM provided additional details in Luganda on Tuesday.
