A Tanzanian court has ordered the extradition of ADF leader Jamil Mukulu.

Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ Court has ordered a leader of the DR Congo-based Ugandan Islamic rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces and Jamil Mukulu to be returned in Uganda to be charged with murder offences.

Resident Magistrate Cyprian Mkeha gave the ruling this afternoon after being satisfied that the charges against the respondent are not related to political issues.

The magistrate also said that, there is sufficient evidence to establish prima-facie of the murder charges against the accused.

However, on his side, Mukulu was not satisfied with the ruling and told the court that he is intending to appeal at the High Court.

Magistrate Mkeha ordered Mukulu to remain in remand prison waiting to be supplied with a copy of proceeding for appeal process.

In May 22, the government of Uganda through its Attorney General Freddie Ruhindi, submitted the application for extradition claiming that Mukulu are required in their country to answer murder charges against them.

Through his advocate Martin Rwehumbiza, Mukulu objected the application on the ground that he has no trust if he can be treated fairly by the Courts of Uganda.

Mukulu and his followers Omary Abdallah Mutuka, Mohamed Matovu and Mark Abdallah Ssebaduka were brought to the Court on different time facing extradition proceedings.

Mukulu, a Roman Catholic-converted Muslim is accused of commanding a spate of brutal attacks against civilians in both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since the late 1990s.

Mukulu allegedly founded the group in the 1990s with the aim of toppling the Ugandan government.
