University students have spoken out about the proposed mandatory HIV testing in all higher institutions of learning saying it is not the best way to reduce the prevalence of the virus among the students.
The Uganda Aids Commission yesterday urged the ministry of health to embark on mandatory HIV tests to ascertain the serostatus of all students on campus.
The commission spokesperson Clare Nampala, suggested that all students found to be HIV positive should be initiated on Anti Ritroviral drugs to suppress their viral load and prevent further spread of the deadly virus.
However, Kyambogo University Guild president German Amanyatells KFM that mere tests will not prevent HIV infection among students since they will not have nothing to differentiate them from others.
He rather suggests intensifying of the sensitization campaigns on campus about the dangers of HIV.
