Police has finally broken into Masjid Noor Mosque along William Street and removed a number of Muslims who had locked themselves inside the mosque.
Earlier, the mosque was cordoned off following a dispute between a sect from Kibuli mosque and the Masjid Noor faction.
A group of Muslims this morning locked the mosque denying others access leading to the standoff.
The operation that was earlier led by the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander Haruna Isabirye has now been taken over Grace Turyagumanawe, Assistant IGP in charge of Peace operations.
The standoff comes as Muslims leaders continue pointing accusing figures at each other following the recent killings of Muslim clerics Sheikh Abdu- Kadri Muwaya who was murdered on Christmas day and Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga who was shot dead on Sunday.
