The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has deferred debate on a motion to pay tribute to late Archbishop of Uganda Janan Luwum.
This follows a request by Serere Woman MP Alice Alaso and Busongora North’s William Nzoghu who said many members who are Christians were not well prepared to honour a person of the late Luwum’s caliber.
They said more people including religious leaders and leaders from neighbouring countries where he served could also have a contribution.
The speaker has now said another day will be set for debate of this motion, and the late’s family members and other religious leaders will be invited to attend.
The church recently declared it was to turn the tragic day of February 16, 1977 when he was killed into a ‘special’ celebration to be held annually.
Celebrations are to be held in Mucwini village, Kitgum District where the deceased was buried.
