South Sudan rebels have pulled out of the IGAD-mediated peace talks, citing bias towards President Salva Kiir by the regional bloc.
The armed faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by the former vice-president Riek Machar has sharply criticize the Intergovernmental Authority on Development leaders for not doing enough to address the root causes of the conflict.
In a press statement signed by the rebels’ chief negotiator, Gen Taban Deng Gai, they say IGAD’s approach was biased and threatens to water down achievements made so far by the thematic committees from both sides of the conflict.
The multi- stakeholder talks on the South Sudan peace process have thus been adjourned to September 13thto allow stakeholders to engage in further consultations.
