The Catholic Church in Uganda is still waiting for the remains of the priest who was murdered in Mexico.
Father John Ssenyondo had been missing since being kidnapped in south-western Guerrero state six months ago but forensic experts found his remains in a mass grave last month.
Father Paulino Twesigye from the Comboni Missionaries at Mbuya parish, where the deceased worked before says they are still waiting for the DNA results from dental identification of the deceased’s brother.
Father Twesigye says investigations are still going on in Mexico to establish exactly what led to death of the priest.
Meanwhile relatives of the slain Ugandan priest have also spoken out. Resty Nanjagala, a sister to the late Fr John Ssengendo expressed shock at the sad news that his remains had been found in a mass grave in Mexico where he had been working from for at least five years.
It is alleged that the 55 year old priest, was abducted on April 30 by unknown gunmen that forced him into their car on his way back home.
Nanjagala says that she last heard from Fr Ssenyondo in April when he called her after which his calls went unanswered, and later the phone was completely out of reach.
Nanjagala recalls that when her late brother last visited Uganda in July 2012, he said he told them that he had been attacked at his home by unidentified robbers that robbed his house hold property and a car.
She adds that Fr. Ssenyondo suspected that the attacks could have been a result of his strong preaching against drug abuse and drug dealers.
The deceased’s mother Teresa Nalubowa says she had earlier received information that her son had been imprisoned but the authorities in Mexico were working hard to secure his release but she was shocked to receive of his death.
