The Court of Appeal has reduced to 6 a 9 year jail term that had been handed to three the Bulgarians accused of forging Bank ATM cards.
Three Justices Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Richard Buteera and Rubby Opio Aweri reached the decision on grounds that the lower court sentence was harsh and excessive.
The Bulgarians were first convicted and sentenced to 20 years by Buganda Road Court grade one magistrate Julius Borore but they appealed to High Court and the sentenced reduced to 9 years.
Again they were not satisfied by High Court decision and appealed to Court of appeal challenging both conviction and 9 years imprisonment.
Now Court of Appeal confirmed their conviction and instead reduced the 9 years sentence to 6 years.
And court maintains that immediately after serving the sentence will be deported to their country.
The Bulgarians are said to have forged Stanbic Bank ATM cards and gained access to people’s accounts and withdrew money unlawfully.
