Six students of St Mary’s College Rushoroza have been arrested by the police after a violent strike that left some school properties destroyed as students complained of little food served to them.
The acting district police commander at Kabale police station Mr Augustus Nakitari on Monday confirmed the arrest of the students and also revealed that the investigating officers were recording statements of the arrested students as they wait for the decision of the school administration.
Nakitari said that some window glasses of the classrooms and the side glasses of the school bus were destroyed by the rioting students that complained of little food served to them. He also said that he has deployed police officers to ensure that there law and order at the school.
The school headmaster RemegioByamukama said that the violent strike happened on Sunday evening but by mid-day the situation was normal at the school.
He said that plans were being put in place to get the arrested students out of the police station as administrative decisions are yet to be made on their fate.
The education officer for Kabale Municipality MrMathiusAkeka that his office was liaising with the school administration to investigate the cause of the strike and the people that could have engineered it.
