The Judiciary has dismissed media reports indicating that a Magistrate was arrested and detained by the police over bribery allegations.

According to the police, Noah Hasahya the Sironko Grade II Magistrate was detained on April 18th.

However, the Chief Registrar Paul Gadenya says these allegations are not true.

He adds that he was only called to make a statement as head of the station and also to provide to the police some details about the court case.

His-worship Gadenya explains that the two court support staff identified as Nelson Kume and Ivan Sabiti allegedly duped a criminal suspect to pay them a bribe so they could secure for him some court favors.

Meanwhile the Judiciary has assigned two officers to act in senior positions.

Joyce Kavuma, the Nakawa chief magistrate has been assigned the role of acting deputy registrar, while Samuel Kagoda Ntende, a Grade I magistrate will act as a chief magistrate.

Judiciary’s Chief Registrar, Paul Gadenya, who is the administrative head of the lower-bench, says these vacant positions were left following the retirement of one of the deputy registrars, Otto Michael Gulumali, early this year.

The officer, who retired after clocking 60 years, has been in charge of the High Court’s Land Registry.
