Former Kampala Mayor Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala insists that MTN Uganda pays him 8billion shillings for using his voice clips as ringtones without his consent.
Sebaggala was today testifying before Commercial Court judge Christopher Madrama.
Sebaggala had initially demanded 35 billion after costing 500 shillings per sms of the 10 million MTN subscribers but said he had now decided to ask for a modest sum of 8 billion shillings.
Sebaggala had requested to give his testimony in Luganda, saying it was a language he was more conversant with but the judge insisted he testifies in English, the language of court and where he meets resistance, an interpreter would be sought.
The case arose on July 2012, with Sebaggala, now the presidential advisor, accusing MTN of unlawfully using his voice recording in various ringtones.
The contentious four ringtones were extracted from oral statements made in 2011 at Parliament at the time Sebaggala was a ministerial nominee.
Hearing has been adjourned to October 14, to enable the defendants to compile both audio and video evidence, plus witnesses that they intend to use in defence.
