Parliament has confirmed the death of Serere County MP Patrick Okabe in a road accident this morning.

Okabe died together with his wife, Christine Okabe at Naboa town along the Mbale-Tirinyi road.

Police report indicates that the deceased honorable who was travelling in a land cruiser Reg No. UBK 995F had a head on Collision with an Isuzu Fuso Reg No. KCX 0710, on his way from Mbale to Iganga.

In a statement issued this morning, parliament says funeral arrangements will be announced soon.

Police traffic spokesperson Farida Nampiima says the driver of the MPS car identified as Jacob is admitted at Mbale regional hospital in critical condition.

She has attributed the cause of the accident to the driver of the Fuso (who is currently on the run) who drifted from his side of the road.

Members of parliament have started paying tribute to the deceased. The speaker Anita Among has eulogized the deceased as a colleague and brother.

Meanwhile Pingire county MP from Serere district, Fred Opolot has eulogized his counterpart as a friend and a mentor who sacrificed a lot to develop his constituency.
