The Judiciary has confirmed that Senior Principal State Attorney Joan Kagezi has been shot dead in what police says was a planned assassination.
The Judiciary deputy spokesperson Araali Muhirwa says Kagezi has been shot by unknown people in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb as she stopped by a grocery shop.
She was driving home in double cabin Reg. No UG05 86J when two people riding on a motorcycle shot her dead and took off
Muhirwa says Kagezi had been prosecuting a number of high profile cases including the one involving the July 2010 bomb suspects that is slated for hearing tomorrow.
A team of detectives led by the Director of CIID Grace Akullo has dashed to Najjeera, in Kira Town Council where the incident happened.
According to the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Patrick Onyango says investigations into the matter have commenced. The special investigating team is led by the Director of CIID Grace Akullo and Director of Operations Felix Kaweesi.
He police have linked the shooting to the numerous murders that have been carried out in a similar manner targeting muslim clerics in different parts of the country.
